Ami started roofing on her brother Scott’s roofing crew in 1994. Both siblings were attending Iowa State University at the same time and paid for much of their education by roofing during the summers. Ami started on the ground crew (partly because she was a girl), but quickly moved up to be being on the roof installation crew when they were doing a house that all the boys were too scared to get on – it was so high and steep. The last two summers, Ami actually ran the roof crew, while Scott took summer classes and performed the sales functions.

In 1997 Ami graduated with a BS in Transportation and Logistics and a BA in German. In 2000, Scott and Ami decided to relocate to the central Texas area and started Feller Builders, which eventually changed to Roofer Chicks®.

Ami obtained her MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2010. In July of 2016 Scott, his wife Stacie, and Ami decided to split the company into two separate entities – with Scott and Stacie covering the Austin market out of Round Rock (present day Kanga Roof), and Ami covering the greater San Antonio market out of New Braunfels. Roofer Chicks® was born, where Ami is 100% owner.

The company is a certified woman owned business enterprise, Master Elite Contractor with GAF, registered member of RCAT, certified installer for both residential and commercial by RCAT, and has an A rating with the BBB.
